It seems to me from my own experience that insurance is a means for veterinary service to use us and our beloved animals as commodities. If they really cared they would find ways to include rather than exclude whole parts of animals from insurance policies, even when there has been no claim made. So just 'wondering' outloud about something to the vet seems to exclude them from any future cover on all four legs. By requesting to go down a more holistic and natural root to address a muscle sorness on one hind leg, do no claim made and after physio and equine massage the issue is resolved. I then find all four legs are excluded from future claims. This is insane and leads me to realise that we are just commodities, most vets and insurance services seem to be of the same or similar ilk. It would be wonderful to know that they really cared, but that sadly doesn't seem to be the case.

We are sorry you are disappointed with the recent service. To clarify, the type of policy you hold is a time limited policy which allow for vets fees for up to 365 days from when the horse first shows clinical signs of a condition. When this time period expires, we are unable to provide cover for those conditions. Following a recent assessment of the the medical history provided by your vets, it was necessary to make you aware of any exclusions of conditions we are unable to provide cover for. In this case, it was confirmed there was a foot imbalance problem, in addition to a coffin joint effusion. Once we are made aware of a condition, we consider it an increased risk and endorse the policy with the relevant exclusion. This can include placing an exclusion where the condition can be bilateral.

Horse insurance has gone ridiculously expensive so many people I know don't have it and get into problems when their horses need to claim for things like vet fees. I have two horses insured with Horse Insurance and I had to make a claim recently as my horse had suspected ulcers. The process was really easy, they dealt with my vet and paid them directly, copying me in with correspondence. I have been very happy with the service.
