Top horses withdrawn from the Grand National

Posted on | 0 Responses

Old favourites Mr Pointman and Abbeybraney have been withdrawn from this years Grand National, leaving Cerium and Royal Rosa to take their place.

Paul Murphy a trainer from North Yorkshire withdrew Mr Pointment to allow Cerium, fifth last year, to enter.  The first reserve Silver Birch was switched to Friday’s Topham Chase. And Howard Johnson has performed a similar move, substituting Royal Rosa for Abbeybraney as he feels the 11-year-old has a better shot.

Both trainers explained their decisions. Murphy issued a veterinary certificate to explain Mr Pointment’s absence, while Durham-based Howard Johnson claimed Abbeybraney had not eaten up overnight.

Knowhere, the fourth reserve on the initial National list, has also been eliminated.
