Tony McCoy was crowned BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday night at the Birmingham LG Arena. By winning this prestigious award McCoy’s professional achievement was recognised as he is the first jockey to win this prize as both Frankie Dettori and Lester Piggott missed out on lifting this award. Tony McCoy has not only won by the landslide amount of public vote of 41% but he was also the only person on the shortlist to be nominated by all of the panellists who compile the final list. He has had a very successful career so far as he won the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, the King George VI chase, many national hunts and what most people will know him for the Grand National. The award was well deserved and show that the Irish jockey’s achievements have been recognised.
