A man from Norfolk has been ordered to pay over £4,000 to Norfolk County Council trading standards department and the charity World Horse Welfare after two of his donkeys were found to have been cruelly neglected.
Both Hermione and Dumbledore the donkeys were found very underweight with no shelter and their feet in very bad condition. The World Horse Welfare has taken the donkeys into their care, after receiving a concerned phone call from a member of the public.
David Lucas, the man being charged, pleaded guilty in front of King’s Lynn Magistrates Court on Thursday 6th October to causing unnecessary suffering to the animals.
Jacko Jackson of the World Horse Welfare said: ‘These donkeys were in terrible condition and if it had not been for a member of the public noticing how poor they looked and contacting us, their outcome could have been much worse. It shows that the Animal Welfare Act works and gives a signal that all animals have a right to proper and correct care.’
