Horse cloning causes controversy in the USA

Posted on | 0 Responses

Horse lovers in the States have begun cloning in an attempt to bring back their favourite and much loved horses.

However, the practice of cloning had created a discord amongst breeders who believe that cloning is replacing breeding and acting as a shortcut to creating a champion horse.  The Los Angeles Times reports that breeders are unhappy with the idea, claiming that it threatens their industry.

Carol Harris, a horse breeder and owner of Bo-Bett Farm near Ocala, told the LA Times, “Breeding is an art, cloning is just replication.”

At present cloned horses are currently not allowed to compete in breed-sanctioned events, but this could change in the future.
