Foal named ‘Vote For Change’

When Conservative campaigners Jane and Steven Wood’s mare Gracie gave birth on polling day in Thirsk and Malton, they thought it fitting to name the foal ‘Vote For Change’ after the Tories campaign slogan.

Jane explained that: ‘ Though the general exlction was on the 6 May, the constituency which we live in, Thirsk and Malton, was unable to vote due to the death of one of the candidates and was rescheduled for 27 May.’

‘Our thoroughbred mare Gracie was due to foal on 6 May, but didn’t until the early hours of 27 May – our polling day.’

As Tory campaigners they were responsible for putting up signs around the county. Steven Wood is an active member of the Bilsdale hunt  has put up signs and spare banners to stop the foal escaping when it was born. He explained, ‘When we came to take photos of him, we found him scrambling around inform of the signs. With that and his birth date we had to call him Vote For Change.’
