Eurotunnel Launches 36 Minute Service for Horses
For the first time this March, Eurotunnel have allowed horses to use its services. This marks the beginning of horses crossing the channel in only 36 minutes and for less than a third of the cost.
Horses now travel in passenger trains that offer a much smoother faster and reliable service which is a vast improvement to the 90 minute ferry crossing that horses would have to take. Since the service was launched on the 1 March, 10 horseboxes have completed the 36 minute crossing. “Horses can be affected by seasickness on ferries, but by travelling in the tunnel they won’t be exposed to rough seas, “said Henry Bullen of Pedens.
Trials were carried out before the service was launched and it was noted that most of the horses dozed for the entire journey. Eurotunnel now has a vet on hand for emergencies and breakdowns. This new service will revolutionise horse travel and make travelling to international shows and events much easier for show jumpers and horse trainers.
