Archers horse changes tack

A horse that featured in Radio 4’s The Archers and TV show Sherlock Homes has changed career direction by helping a traditional logging project in protected woodland in Cambridgeshire.
The horse is a 19 year old Clydesdale that was brought in by the Forestry Commission to Rocking ham Forest near Peterborough. Silent has appeared in the Archers, a TV series of Sherlock Homes and performed as a ceremonial jump horse to the Queen.
Silent’s owner Nick Sutton explained that, “Silent loves to work, which is a well known trait of the Clydesdale breed, it keep shims fit, healthy and most importantly of all occupied, which is so important for these beautiful animals.”
Forestry Commission ranger, Cheryl Joyce said, “ By using the practice of horse logging, the Forestry Commission ranger is able to minimise the impact of this essential work, while supporting traditional methods.”
