Zara Phillips to improve Welsh National victor’s jumping

Olympic silver medal-winning eventer Zara Phillips has been enlisted to help work on Welsh Grand National winner Monbeg Dude's fence jumping.

The eight-year-old, ridden by Paul Carberry, triumphed in the marquee race at the weekend (January 5th) in a tightly fought rush to the line with Tony McCoy's charge Teaforthree.

Monbeg Dude is trained by Michael Scudamore and the horse was bought at auction by four rugby players – including Ms Phillips' husband Mike Tindall.

Despite the victory, he made some jumping errors during the race and will now be subject to work with Ms Phillips.

Mr Scudamore told Horse and Hound: "Dad [Peter] rang afterwards and said horses don't make as many mistakes as he did and win races like that – he must be good, but get his jumping sorted."
