World Horse Welfare presents dossier to EC over transporting

Equine insurance customers could be in support of the World Horse Welfare's dossier, which has been handed over to the European Commission (EC) in order to press for changes to the laws surrounding the transportation of the animals.

On Wednesday (October 26th) campaigns advisor Jo White and chief executive of the organisation Roly Owers travelled to Brussels to hand over the document which highlights the suffering these long trips can cause to horses.

Ms White said the idea of the dossier was to make people aware of the plight on the thousands of horses that are taken on needlessly long journeys throughout the year.

"The simple and practical solution of a short, maximum journey limit would not only reduce the current suffering but would also reduce the unacceptable disease risk that the trade creates," she added.

Earlier this month, the organisation urged people to support its campaign for the horses after the EC delayed its review on the current transport regulations for equine.
