William Buick eyes jockeys’ title
William Buick insists he is putting the eventual disappointment of Royal Ascot behind him in order to focus on becoming the champion jockey.
Buick was leading the jockey competition heading into the final race of the festival last week and needed to finish at least in third place to make sure of being named top rider.
However, the race was won by Simenon with Ryan Moore on equalling Buick's total of five wins at the meeting. Because Buick finished fourth in the race Moore triumphed after a countback of placed horses throughout the week.
He insists you "can't be disappointed" with a tremendous week like that and is now focusing on the rest of the season.
On his champion jockey chances, the rider told the Guardian: "I'm riding as much as I can, as many winners as I can and trying my best. My agent is certainly trying his best. We'll see where we end up."
