Wales trials first official national polo team

For the first time ever Wales will be fielding an official polo team to compete all over the world.

For the last four years, a group of Welsh polo enthusiasts have formed an unofficial team and played matches in the country, Horse and Hound reports.

However, for the 2012 season, the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) has allowed the team to become official and will represent the country in competitions in England and the US.

The HPA is the sport's governing body and has been an incorporated company and overseen its main issues since 2004.

Chairman of the newly-formed Welsh Polo Team and Association Harry Legge-Burke said there are currently no polo clubs in Wales.

"We hope to change that very soon. This hard work by players not only adds to Wales's rich equestrian heritage, it also lays the foundations for establishing the sport in the country," he told the news provider..
