Tattersalls International Horse Trials future in doubt
The future of the prestigious Tattersalls International Horse Trials is in doubt due to major financial trouble.
Organisers have said that it may not be held next year unless it can get hold of additional funding from Horse Sport Ireland (HSI), which is the governing body for equestrian in the country.
Tattersalls Ireland, which has sponsored the event for seven years, stated it needed a "guaranteed funding plan" in place by October in order to hold it again.
The loss to the calendar would leave Ireland with just one recognised event, otherwise known as a Concours Complet International at Ballindenisk.
Eventing Ireland's Georgia Stubington told Horse and Hound that it would be absolutely "desperate" to lose such a major event but there may be no choice.
HSI's Damian McDonald added: "Tattersalls is an outstanding event. However, we are not in a position to give a guarantee of a set amount of funding until we receive confirmation of our own annual funding allocation."
