Snow could delay start of Flat season
Just about everyone thought that once we'd reached March the snow and freezing weather would be very much behind us, but that hasn't been the case.
Indeed, in the last two weeks snow has been seen in many different parts of the country and this could now affect the start of the Flat racing season.
The season usually runs from late March to mid-November and is scheduled to kick off with a two-day meeting at Doncaster beginning on Friday (March 22nd) but there is a concern that they may not be able to run.
Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan has admitted that both days could lose their battle with the weather.
He added: "As far as Friday's meeting is concerned, it depends when the snow arrives and how much there is. There are concerns about racing at Doncaster on Saturday."
Current weather forecasts predict that temperatures will not rise above 1 degree C on Friday or Saturday.
