Ruby Walsh’s five-day ban upheld
Equine insurance customers might be interested to learn that champion jockey Ruby Walsh has had his five-day ban for excessive use of the whip upheld, much to his dismay.
The British Racing Authority (BHA) agreed with the original decision after Walsh had seemingly exceeded the eight-strike limit onboard Edgaro Sol at Aintree last month.
Walsh had stated that he may be forced to cut the number of his rides in the UK after being found guilty and called on the BHA to show a bit of "common sense" when coming up with guidelines over the use of the whip.
"Bans will start to mount up, people will end up doing what I did – instinctively doing something to correct a horse that is not allowed and walk into five-day and ten-day bans," Walsh told racing UK.
Late last month, the BHA amended the new whip guidelines after jockeys had complained and threatened to strike about the new regulations that were brought in at the start of the month.
