More people ‘playing sport than ever’
There are record numbers of people playing sport every week now, according to figures released by Sport England.
Indeed, the data shows that 15.5 million people aged 16 and over are playing sport at least once a week, which is 750,000 more than a year ago.
The largest increase has been seen among women, with a rise of more than half a million in the last year to help cut the gender gap.
It has been noted that the Olympics had a positive impact on the equine industry, with a number of ridings clubs stating they have seen an increase in users since the Games.
Sport England chief executive Jennie Price said the survey only measured the people who play sport each and every week.
"These results show we are on the right track. I'm particularly pleased that many more women are taking up sports from netball and cycling to running," she continued.
