Lottery winners back Scottish showjumper

Posted on | 0 Responses

An aspiring Scottish showjumper has received a windfall from the UK's biggest ever Lottery winners to help him continue to compete.

EuroMillions winners Chris and Colin Weir, who were awarded £161 million in 2011, have supported numerous causes since then and they now have stepped in to sponsor 14-year-old Robbie Mason.

The pair also recently provided a £750,000 windfall for their local football club – Largs Thistle – to pay for a new all-weather pitch.

So far they have paid for two new ponies and a horsebox, which represents a payout of around £100,000.

Robbie Mason Snr originally put a plea for funding in the UK Sponsorship database and the Weirs stepped forward, Horse and Hound reports.

He continued: "Robbie needs to move up to 148cm class this year and I don't think we would have been able to afford to stay in the game without the Weirs' help."
