Kauto Star owner ‘disappointed’ with trainer Nicholls
Owner of record-breaking racehorse Kauto Star Clive Smith has stated his disappointment with long-time trainer of the equine Paul Nicholls.
Kauto Star was initially retired as a racehorse earlier this year but Smith had suggested that he might move into a dressage career.
After speaking to renowned dressage trainer Yogi Breisner, Smith decided to move the horse to European bronze medallist eventing rider Laura Collett earlier this week.
Nicholls had written in his Betfair column that he and his staff were extremely disappointed to lose Kauto Star before December.
However Smith countered by suggesting the decision to move the horse this week was completely up to Nicholls.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live that it was purely Nicholls' decision to take Kauto Star out of the yard.
"Paul Nicholls has made out he didn't know anything about it, but I've kept him informed since May. We talked about eventing and he knew eventually he would be doing something away from the yard," he continued.
