Kauto Star leaves Paul Nicholls’ yard
Record-breaking racehorse Kauto Star has left trainer Paul Nicholls' stable in order to embark on a new career in dressage with Laura Collett.
The two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and five-time King George VI victor was retired from racing earlier this year, but owner Clive Smith mooted the idea of him competing in dressage.
Kauto Star is the only horse in history to have regained the Gold Cup having lost, but was pulled up by jockey Ruby Walsh going for a third victory in March.
Nicholls revealed in his Betfair column that he was disappointed to be losing such a brilliant horse but decided on Tuesday (December 11th) that it was right to get him to Yogi Breisner's stable.
"But what upset me and my team is when Clive announced that he had spoken to experts about the horse's future – but failed to consult and listen properly to the team here," he wrote.
