Kauto Star could be create ‘dressage legacy’
Record-breaking racehorse Kauto Star is good enough to become a legend in dressage, according to his new rider Laura Collett.
The five-time King George VI Chase and two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner retired from racing in October before being moved to a career in dressage last month.
He is the only horse to have regained the Gold Cup having lost it and there is a statue of him at Haydock that was erected in November.
Despite the upheaval, Collett said that Kauto Star has taken to his new life well so far.
Indeed, she told BBC Somerset that he can make a big impact, but it will take an awful lot of hard work. However, the initial signs are very good for the horse.
"But if he can do well then he'll be leaving two legacies – one in racing and one in dressage. He's settled in really well and seems to be happier with his quieter life."
