Jersey to host first beach polo tournament

Jersey is set to host its very first international beach polo tournament later this year.
Starting on September 19th at St Brelades Bay, Horse and Hound reports that organisers are hoping the event will follow in the footsteps of other prestigious tournaments that have taken place at Sandbanks in Dorset and Watergate Bay in Cornwall.
These events are the key occasions on the polo calendar – particularly as the sport has not been a part of the Olympic Games since 1936 – although former supermodel and keen polo player Jodie Kidd has been leading calls for its reinstatement.
Julie Settle of the Jersey Polo Club said that her organisation is getting on with planning, having obtained permission to go ahead.
"There will be plenty of entertainment, including a champagne bar on the beach," she told Horse and Hound.
The UK will be sending two of the four participating teams, with Zimbabwe also represented.
