Hurricane Fly has become the first horse for 38 years to regain the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham with a storming win over defending champion Rock On Ruby.
The 2011 winner looked to be struggling in the middle parts of the race by jockey Ruby Walsh allowed him to recover to claim a brilliant two-and-a-half-length victory.
This triumph was part of treble for Walsh and Irish trainer Willie Mullins as they also managed wins with Champagne Fever and Quevega during the first day of the Cheltenham Festival.
Walsh told Channel 4 after the race: "He's a cracking little horse. He showed another side to him today and that was guts."
Hurricane Fly had been disappointing in finishing third in the race last year despite being the overwhelming favourite pre-race.
Walsh, managed to extend his run as the jockey that has won the most races at the festival with 37 victories overall.
