Huntingdon Racecourse prize money to increase 80%
Prize money at Huntingdon Racecourse is set to rise by 80 per cent to £724,950 in the coming 12 months.
The funds have been made available by course owners – The Jockey Club – and they are part of a £5 million rise in prize money across its group of tracks.
It would be a much-needed boost for the Cambridgeshire course after the postponement of a series of meetings.
Indeed, heavy flooding on the National Hunt course saw the marquee race – Peterborough Chase – called off last month, as well as the Boxing Day meeting.
General manager Sophie Able said everyone is delighted to be putting so much extra money into prize funds in 2013.
She added that the aim is to attract as many big names to the course as possible.
"The difference between racecourses run by The Jockey Club and others is that we plough our profits back into the sport," she continued.
