Horse saved from underground bunker

A two-year old horse has been rescued by emergency services after it became stuck in an underground chamber for five days.

Chico fell through a hole in the ground near a farm in West Yorkshire.

He was stuck in the concrete bunker for five days before firefighters spent four hours digging him out.

Luckily he was sedated and managed to walk out unhurt, Horse and Hound reports.

This follows the rescue of six horses who were stranded in neck-high water after a river burst its banks last month.

Pete Owen from the West Yorkshire Fire Service said passersby could hear an animal in distress but weren't sure where it was coming from. The firefighters eventually found the horse after three hours of searching.

"We assessed him and he was fine, so a vet sedated him and we dug through the walls to get him out," he was quoted as saying.
