Great Yorkshire Show abandoned after heavy rainfall
Organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show have been forced to cancel this year's extravaganza as a result of the recent heavy rainfall seen all around the country.
Unprecedented amounts of rain had fallen in the area in the last couple of weeks, causing muddy ground, which has led to the 154th running of the show being abandoned.
New roads and drainage systems were installed to try and combat the bad weather but it couldn't prevent the abandonment.
This isn't the first show to be cancelled due to the wet weather in the UK this year. The 2012 Badminton Grassroots Championships had to be postponed in May.
Show director Bill Cowling said the decision was one of the hardest he has had to face.
"The decision has been made because our car parks have become too muddy to use with any safety, and the safety of our visitors has to come first," he added.
