Frankie Dettori to carry Olympic torch
Popular flat jockey Frankie Dettori is set to carry the Olympic flame at his favourite racecourse today (July 10th).
The flamboyant Italian is taking part in day 53 of the London 2012 Olympic Torch relay.
He will be passed the torch as it makes its way from Ascot High Street into the racecourse.
It is apt that the Italian will be doing this at Ascot as he famously won all the races on the card at the venue in 1996.
Dettori will then take it on a lap of the parade ring aboard Cheltenham Festival winner and ex-racehorse Monsignor.
He said he will be watching the relay all the way through to the opening of the Olympic Games.
"It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to carry the Olympic Flame, especially at a track that holds such happy memories for me," the Italian was quoted as saying.
