Ex-boyfriend jailed for horse attack
A man who launched a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend's horse has been jailed for five years.
St Albans crown court heard how Sebastiano Mauro, a surgical nurse, used a sharp blade to cut down to the bone of the beast owned by Nathalie Kelderman.
Ms Kelderman had ended her relationship with the 43-year-old after he was charged with assaulting her, but shortly after he was released on bail last July, CCTV recorded him at the livery yard in Bicket Wood, Herts, where Jessie, the ten-year-old mare was kept.
A groom found the animal bleeding heavily from the off-hind wound, which required vets to use forceps to stop the flow of blood.
Passing sentence, judge Stephen Gullick told Mr Mauro: "Given that you were on police bail, to then visit the stables was particularly unpleasant."
Judge Gullick also ordered him to stay away from Ms Kelderman and her horse in the future.
