Dettori thrilled with new position
Frankie Dettori has announced that he has become the retained rider for Sheikh Joaan Al Thani.
The new position means that Dettori is now the resident jockey for one of the top internationally acclaimed forces in horse racing. Announced on Sunday (30th June), the development hopes to restablish Dettori as a world-class rider.
Based in Qatar, Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing is one of the highest class racehorse businesses.
The 41 year old jockey, who received a six-month riding ban after testing positive for drugs in September 2012, is 'delighted' with the title. Dettori returned to racing on May 31st to ride in the Epsom Derby, following his split from Godolphin team in October 2012.
He said that Al Thani "is keen to expand and I can see the passion and love for racing that he has got".
Dettori added: "He is the sort of person you want to work with."
