BHA welcomes Budget gambling announcement

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has welcomed yesterday's (March 21st) announcement by the chancellor in the Budget that the government will legislate for the taxation of remote gambling differently.
The government will now take remote gambling into account at the point of consumption rather than at the point of supply, which the BHA believes will create a "level playing field" for all betting operators.
Parliamentary debates on remote gambling have previously taken place and it is clear there is cross party support for a change to the fiscal and regulatory guidelines for the issue.
Chief executive of the BHA Paul Bittar said the body would continue to work constructively with the government and the Association of British Bookmakers in this ongoing process.
"The Chancellor's comments represent a positive, and necessary, step forward towards British Racing securing a fair and commercially based funding settlement," Mr Bittar continued in a statement.
