17-year-old mare saved from icy lake on Boxing Day
A fire crew of 20, both from the animal rescue crew and the water incident unit, carried out the amazing task of rescuing Tempest, the 17-year-old grey mare after she plunged into a frozen lake. The mare, known as Temmy, was grazing on the nearby fields and ventured onto the ice when she fell into the lake struggling to keep her head above water. The owner was notified by neighbours about what happened and the rescue crews were called. The crew had to cut a 20 metre path to rescue the horse and after a tense hour-long rescue operation Temmy was freed. She is now back grazing in the field and was thankfully unharmed by her dramatic ordeal.
