Paul Tapner Wins Badminton 2010

Paul Tapner has won his first Mitsubishi Motors Trophy at Badminton with a second flawless jumping display on Inonothing, a horse once nicknamed Spinhead after being written off numerous times.
The accomplished Australian rider, who had led after the cross-country, remained unfazed when blinding rain arrived, and did not need the fence in hand provided when Mary King dropped from second to fourth with a show jump down on Imperial Cavalier. Tapner said, “He has some very some very special behavioural problems back then – in fact his nickname is ‘Spinhead’. After I rode him in a competition in 2003, it went so disastrously wrong that I almost phoned up his owner, Jeremy Waalerm, and told him that I didn’t want to ride him anymore. But something held me back from making the phone call. And now look where we are.”
Germany’s Andreas Dibowski rose from fifth to second on Euroridings Butts Leon after compatriot Simone Dietermann plummeted out of contention on Free Easy NRW.
Many top names were caught out by the series of intensive accuracy questions in the middle third of the track, with European gold and silver medallists Tina Cook (Miners Frolic) and Piggy French (Some Day Soon) both falling, and William Fox-Pitt (Macchiato), Andrew Nicholson (Avebury), world silver medallist Clayton Fredericks (The Frog) and Lucy Wiegersma (Woodfalls Inigo Jones) all having refusals on strongly-fancied rides.
