Pony racing academy set up for riders without a horse
June 14, 2012 | 0 Responses
The British Racing School (BRS) in Newmarket has set up a scheme to enable children who don't have a racing pony to take part in the sport.
Pony racing is rapidly developing into a fast-paced and popular sport among eight to 15-year-olds.
It helps improve young riders' jockey skills and gives them the opportunity to get vital racing experience if they want to try and make a career in the sport.
The BRS Pony Racing Academy will begin at the end of this month and three children will attend each Saturday for 12 weeks to learn the finer points of the sport.
Three ponies have been loaned to the BRS and they are still looking for a fourth to help the youngsters develop properly.
"We are really excited about the Pony Racing Academy and this will allow us to open up pony racing to more young people. We hope to find a race for them to take part in," Gemma Waterhouse of the BRS said.
