Anyone could be an equestrian star, Hester claims
August 9, 2012 | 0 Responses
Newly-crowned team dressage gold medal winner Carl Hester has claimed that anyone who wants to get involved in the sport can.
He suggested that it is not an elitist pursuit and that people from any background could make it if they wanted.
The team of three – Hester, Charlotte Dujardin and Laura Bechtolsheimer – won the gold medal which took Team GB passed the 19 mark that was set at the last Olympics in Beijing.
When asked about whether dressage could appeal to the masses and get more people involved, Hester pointed out that all three team mates come from very different upbringings.
He said the one similarity they are all shared was for working hard.
"I grew up on Sark, the most ridiculous small island. I left home at 16, said I wanted to go to England and do horses. There's a story that any kid could aspire to," he said.
